Yahoo Widgets

Yahoo has bought Konfabulator and it is now called Yahoo Widgets. I had tried Konfabulator before when you had to pay for it but didn’t keep it since it wasn’t free. I just downloaded and installed the Yahoo version since it is 100% free. As of right now, there are over 1000 widgets available. I’ll play around with this so that if and when I do get a Mac, I’ll be used to widgets since OS 10.4 has Dashboard which is Apple’s version of Konfabulator.

Hockey Is Back

Today, the NHL Board of Governors ratified the new collective bargaining agreement. Each clubs payroll cannot exceed $39 million, including signing and performance bonuses. Along with ending the 310 day lockout, the NHL has made some rule changes, some I like and some I don’t. For starters, a two line pass now has to cross BOTH blue lines. They ignore the red center line. They did this to speed up the game but I didn’t think there were that many penalties for two line passing being made. They’ve also changed offsides. Now, if a player goes offsides, he can get back to the blue line and at least get a skate on it before the puck crosses over, then he is no longer offsides. This rule I’m okay with. They’ve added an instigator rule so that any player who instigates a fight in the final five minutes of a game will receive a game misconduct and an automatic one-game suspension. The length of suspension would double for each additional incident. They’re also making the goaltenders equipment 11% smaller. Martin Brodeur, the goaltender for the New Jersey Devils is one of the players that was for the smaller equipment. There will be no more tie games in hockey anymore. If the game is still tied after overtime, there will be a shootout to determine the winner. It’s going to be a little strange not seeing a tie column in the newspaper. Now, I’ll have to wait till I can buy tickets to see the Devils play the Rangers either at Continental Airlines Arena or at Madison Square Garden.

Weird U.S. On History Channel

Weird U.S., brought to you by the same guys that brings you Weird NJ, will have a weekly television program on the History Channel. They’re replaying the show that aired around Christmas time as the pilot on Sunday, July 31, 2005. The first new episode will air Monday, August 1, 2005; and there will be a new episode every Monday after that. I saw the pilot episode when it aired back in December and thought it was okay. I’m a big fan of Weird NJ so I wasn’t too interested about the stuff outside of New Jersey. The story that they did do from Jersey, I already read about years ago in the magazine. Then again, the target audience is to the general public, not just those of us interested in Weird NJ/U.S. locations. The August 1 episode has the two Marks (Mark Moran and Mark Sceurman; the editors/creators of Weird NJ and Weird U.S.) going to New York City, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and Florida. At least the places/things from New York City I can go to and check out for myself.

David Lee Roth To Replace Howard Stern?

There’s been news on the net lately that it’s possible that “Diamond Dave” David Lee Roth will replace Howard Stern when Howard goes to Sirius satellite radio next January. I would actually listen to David if he took over for Howard. I’m a bigger fan of Van Halen with David as the frontman than I am of Van Halen with Sammy Hagar as the frontman (commonly referred to as Van Hagar).

XM Radio

I finally decided to get XM Radio over Sirius. I am not a big fan of Howard Stern so I could care less about him going over to Sirius next January. I am a bigger fan of Opie and Anthony and it’s still a little weird hearing them curse on their show when I’m so used to when they were on FM radio. The only reason I had for thinking about getting Sirius was Leslie Gold - The Radio Chick, who used to on the same station as Opie and Anthony. If only some company create a receiver that could work with both satellite radio companies, or they merged into one company.
