I Love The 80s 3-D

I’ve been watching I Love The 80s 3-D the last few nights and it reminded me of a lot of things from the 80’s that I had forgotten completely. The previous series, I Love The 80s and I Love The 80s Strikes Back, really didn’t do that for me because the stuff they covered I remembered very well. Some of the things that I had totally forgotten include Freezy Freakies, Penny Racers, Mad Balls, Sniglets, Not Necessarily The News, Mon Chi Chis, the Frugal Gourmet, My Buddy, Morton Downey Jr., and the Noid. Some of the things that I hadn’t forgotten about but really enjoyed seeing again include Tron, when Lawrence Taylor broke Joe Theismann’s leg on Monday Night Football, Three Amigos!, The Color of Money, Head Of The Class, and Legend Of Zelda. I knew every song that they played from Jermaine Stewart’s We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off to Murray Head’s One Night In Bangkok.

Open Office 2.0

Open Office 2.0 was released a few days ago as final status. For those of you who don’t know what Open Office is, it is a free alternative to Microsoft Office. It has a word processor which can handle Word .doc files, a spreadsheet which can handle Excel .xls files, a presentation tool which can handle Powerpoint .ppt, and a database program similar to Access. The presentation tool, called Impress, can save a file as a .swf Flash file which is very nice because I never got around to learning Flash. The word processor, Writer, can save as a .pdf file so you don’t need to buy Adobe Acrobat to create .pdf files. I’ve been using Open Office for a couple of years now on my laptop since Microsoft Office can only be installed on one computer. I’ve been very happy with it and was looking forward to version 2.0 coming out ever since it was released in beta. You can download Open Office either directly or via BitTorrent

MacGyver Season Four

While looking through Amazon.com for Christmas gifts, I came across MacGyver - The Complete Fourth Season which is coming out December 6, 2005. That marks the half way point to the complete series.

Flock

Thanks to a story on Digg.com I’ve downloaded and installed a new browser, Flock.  Flock has a built-in RSS reader, can post to a blog (which is what I’m doing right now on it), can share favorites via del.icio.us, and also works with Flickr.  It’s based on Firefox so it operates and looks pretty much the same way.  I’m going to try it out for a few days and see if I like it.  It’s a preview release so it’s gonna be buggy but that doesn’t bother me.  Now I have 6 web browsers to choose from to visit a site (Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, Flock, and IE).

iTunes 6.0

A little over month after Apple released iTunes 5.0, they come out with iTunes 6.0. iTunes 6.0 now supports video for the 5th generation iPods that support video. It has finally happened. Apple has true video capability in an iPod. There are even docks with IR ports for a remote control. As of right now, I don’t see myself wanting/needing a video iPod but that may, and probably will, change in the near future.

Some New DVDs

I stopped at Best Buy today on my way to school to pick up the Family Guy DVD and the Mallrats 10th anniversary DVD. While I was there, I saw season 3 of MacGyver was available so I picked that up too.

Netscape & HP

According to this c|net article, HP is going to install Netscape on their PC’s. Firefox, the browser I use, is based on Netscape. I’d rather see Firefox installed but really, as long as it’s something other then that damned blue e, I’ll be happy. Maybe people will learn that Internet Explorer =! the internet.
