Diamond Dave Is Out, O & A Are In

As I was riding the train into work this morning, I read an article that caught my eye. Opie and Anthony, part of the reason I bought an XM radio, are now also on 92.3 in New York (Howard Stern’s old station before he left for Sirius) replacing Diamond Dave. They will be broadcasting from the WXRK studios from 6am-9am which will be simulcast and uncensored on XM and then do another 2 hours strictly for XM subscribers for a total of 5 hours of O&A. With O&A in the mornings and the Radio Chick in the afternoons, it’s almost like WNEW all over again.

Monopoly Changing Look

Monopoly, invented in 1935, is getting with the times.

The game’s updated Here and Now edition, which is due out this fall, will replace Atlantic City landmarks with legendary streets, neighborhoods and national monuments.

Until May 12, fans can vote on www.monopoly.com for their favorite landmarks from 22 cities — including New York’s Times Square, Chicago’s Wrigley Field, Honolulu’s Waikiki Beach, Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

Additionally, the votes will determine where each landmark will appear on the game board, the city with the most votes landing on the coveted Boardwalk spot.

“We encourage Monopoly fans to help create the look of our new game board by voting often at our website for their favorite landmarks,” Matt Collins, Vice President of Marketing for Hasbro, said in a statement. “Your vote could be the difference needed to land your favorite American city on a blue property space.”

Among other changes, the railroads will be replaced by New York’s JFK airport, Chicago’s O’Hare, Los Angeles’ LAX and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson.

Property values will rise, money will be in higher denominations and “Community Chest” and “Chance” cards will reflect more modern scenarios.

But, the original version will still be available for sentimental fans of the game.

If it weren’t for that last sentence, I’d be pissed. Monopoly is and should always be based on Atlantic City, NJ.

My Next PC

I’m finally in the process of putting together my next PC. I’ve had the motherboard (Intel D915PBL) and CPU (Intel 3.4GHz Pentium 4 w/ HyperThreading) for over a year now. I got them from Intel directly with WindowsXP Professional for $200. I just ordered 2 Seagate 300GB SATA hard drives from NewEgg.com. I plan on using the built-in RAID on the motherboard so that the 300GB drives will be mirrored that way if one crashes, I’ll have a copy on the second. I’m still looking for a reasonably priced PCI-Express video card. And I’m still undecided on whether I’m going to have 2GB of DDR2 RAM or 4GB. It should be done within the next month or so and then I can turn my current PC (1.7GHz P4, 1GB SDRAM, 160GB IDE HDD) into a linux PC and/or a MythTV server since I have my Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150.
