Wardriving Update

I haven’t been doing much wardriving lately due to time constraints and gas costing so much. I decided to do some wardriving when I drove to Georgia on Sunday. I came across 796 APs and when I uploaded the log to WiGLE, only 370 were new APs. I’m taking a slightly different way home tomorrow so I plan on doing more wardriving back to Jersey.

Wardrive - April 24

I went wardriving today on the 1 year anniversary of joining WiGLE. I went down to Red Bank to “discover uncharted territory”. I also went down to Red Bank because I am a big fan of View Askew Productions. Those of you who don’t recognize the name, you may recognize some of the movies, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl. While I was in Red Bank, I stopped by some of the locations from the movies. I went to Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, which has an SSID of Snootchie Bootchies, and I also stopped off at RST Video and the infamous Quick Stop. So I had to go in and buy a Gatorade and a can of Pringles (you have to see Clerks to understand why). After I eat all the Pringles, I will turn the can into a cantenna.

Wardrive - April 21

I went wardriving today on my day off through the Hills in Bedminster. I came across 1063 APs, only 316 were encrypted, 747 were open, and 342 were still set to the default SSID. This brings me up to 8871 APs, with 2523 protected with WEP/WPA, 6348 unprotected, and 2659 set to the default SSID. I have to look over my map to see where I have left to go.

Wardrive - April 16

I went wardriving tonight through Hillsborough and came across 490 APs, 148 were protected with encryption, 342 were not, and 130 still had the default SSID that it came with out of the box. This brings me up to 8024 APs, 2272 protected, 5752 not protected, and 2391 still on the default SSID. I expect the APs set to the default to change once the next version of NetStumbler comes out. There are a lot of APs that are not being detected properly as far as vendor. They’re being recorded as [Fake] and there for offset the numbers a little.

Wardrive - April 14

I went wardriving today, this time finishing up Raritan, most of Dunellen, and parts of Old Bridge. I came across 814 APs, 234 were encrypted, 580 were not, and 210 were still set to the default SSID. So far, I have found 7275 APs, 2014 were secured with encryption, 5261 were open, and 2218 were still set to the factory SSID.

Wardrive - April 9

I had to drop a few things off at my cousin’s house in Stockton which is a few miles south of Flemington so I decided to wardrive my way there and back. I also finished off Somerville and did a few small areas of Bridgewater. I came across 595 APs, 185 had encryption turned on, 410 didn’t, and 142 were set to the default SSID. This brings me up to 6603 APs, with only 1825 encrypted, 4778 without encryption, and 2069 still set to the default SSID.

Wardrive - April 8

I went wardriving today through Somerville and a little bit of Hillsborough and came across 536 APs. 167 APs were encrypted, 369 were not encrypted, and 143 were still set to the default SSID. Now, I have to look at the map and make sure I didn’t miss any parts of Somerville before I move onto Hillsborough.

Wardrive - April 7

I went wardriving today before work. I went around my neighborhood and found 436 APs, of which 116 had WEP/WPA encryption turned on, 320 didn’t have any encryption turned on, and 146 were still set to the default SSID. This brings me up to 5994 APs, with 1646 encrypted with WEP/WPA, 4348 without any encryption, and 1924 still had the factory default SSID. Tomorrow I’m going to wardrive through Somerville and I’ve got to figure out how I’m going to wardrive through Hillsborough.

Wardrive - April 5

I went wardriving after work today around Raritan and Bradley Gardens and found 313 APs. 52 had WEP/WPA encryption turned on, 261 were open, and 81 were set to the default SSID. So far, I have found 5430 APs, of which 1492 had WEP/WPA encryption turned on, 3938 were open, and 1769 were set to the default SSID. Now that it’s getting warmer, I’ll be going wardriving more often.
