The iPhone3G has been announced. It will be released on July 11, 2008 in 25 countries and will be available eventually in 70 countries. The buttons on the side are now made of metal instead of plastic. The headphone jack is on the right side instead of the top and it’s no longer recessed. The iPhone now has true GPS built-in. It’s thinner than the current version and it will sell for $200 less than the current version. The $200 price drop is without the subsidy from AT&T originally believed to be available.

3G iPhone Soon?
There are numerous rumors today that the 3G version of Apple’s iPhone will be coming out on June 9th. They’re also saying that it will be curved more than the current model, have GPS built-in, have a front-facing camera along with the rear camera, and will be given a $200 price-break by AT&T. This means, if the newer iPhone is the same price and storage capacity as the original, a 8GB iPhone can be had for $199 and a 16GB iPhone would be $299. I’ve been looking forward to getting one to replace my aging Motorola RAZR.
My Next Cell Phone
Today, Apple finally announced the iPhone. From Apple’s website:
iPhone combines three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching — into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone also introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting you control everything with just your fingers. So it ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, completely redefining what you can do on a mobile phone.
It will only be available through my cellular provider, Cingular (who are changing their name back to AT&T this year), in either a 4GB or 8GB model.
