DD-WRT

I have replaced Sveasoft’s Alchemy firmware on my Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router with DD-WRT. It doesn’t look anything like the original Linksys firmware, like Sveasoft did, but it’s a lot newer than what I’ve been running.

Linksys WRT54GL

Linksys as released a “new” router. It’s the same thing as the old WRT54G routers up to version 4. With version 5, the WRT54G router is no longer running linux. The new router is called the Linksys WRT54GL. I might have to pick one of these up while they’re available because Linksys isn’t too sure how many they will sell since it’s now for hobbyists and linux hackers. I’ve already installed a hacked firmware on my current WRT54G router but I would like to install some of the other firmwares on a spare router.

Alchemy

I just flashed the firmware in my Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router with a hacked version from Sveasoft. It adds a lot of features the factory firmware does not provide, like the ability to telnet into the router and install other applications. The next thing I want to do to the router is install Snort so that I can have some level of intrusion detection and alerting inside the access point. I got the original idea from Kevin Rose’s segment on The ScreenSavers
